It's a Wrap! BrisStyle indie Twilight {Christmas} Market

Thank you Brisbane and all the BrisStyle indie Marketeers for the magic you wove to make last Friday's BrisStyle indie Twilight {Christmas} Market such a festive, warm and community minded night for all.

Here are some highlights from the night to ooh and ahh over and don't forget if you forgot to get that little extra special something, for that extra special someone, you can shop online with all your fave BrisStyle indie Twilight Marketeers here.

The handmade loving crowds rolled in from 4pm.....
They soon discovered the handmade undercover haven which was the deck. Many of  BrisStyle's emerging craftisans made up the Twilight indie Co-op with Rebecca from Edward and Lilly at the helm.

The lights came on to signify that Twilight had well and truly arrived ...

...and down below the indie Marketeers, City Hall and Solar powered Tree lit up in anticipation for the Myer Christmas Panto  and Parade.
The best vantage point was nestled on the deck where shoppers took a break to watch the Panto and plan their shopping route.....

...soon enough the Myer Christmas Parade made it's way though the crowds and indie Marketeers on the  grand ramp...

During all the festivities the Market stalls were packed and it was service with a smile all round... especially extra special sweet ones from Jules and Jon from Sconnie and Jam.
Many an indie Marketeer stamped their handmade mark with product progression shots styled into their stalls...like this one from the gorgeous Gosyma.

...and this innovative video presentation by the ever so popular Zillpa.

It truly was a night to celebrate a wonderful year of creativity, giving and community spirit and all the marketeers turned on their Christmas best...including each to own with her specially designed Christmas decos to adorn with.

Thank you all once again for sharing another crafty BrisStyle year and for helping to ignite creativity throughout Brisbane. Many thanks to the Brisbane City Council teams at Creative Communities and King George Square / City Hall for their ongoing support.

Many thanks too to Brisbane Metropolitan Bands and Brisbane Marketing for their part in bringing the square to life with their soulful music and festive entertainment.

A safe, creative and joyous Christmas to you and your families and very much look forward to making more handmade merriment with you all in 2013.

Stay tuned over the coming weeks for news of a very exciting BrisStyle event calendar indeed.

Happy handmade holidaying

Crafty D.I.Y

Good morning,

School holidays + children + Christmas = Time to look into some crafty activities for the young ones in the house!

Making your own play Dough  is so much fun, but when it is Peppermint Play Dough it is just awesome and timely!

The Idea Room has a a great tutorial including some printable labels to go with it.
 How fun is that ?!

{FEATURED DESIGNER} Blue Jacaranda

Owned and run by Linda Robertus, Blue Jacaranda is a wonderful small business with a big heart!  Screen printed goodies for your home have always been a weakness of mine and Blue Jacaranda's products are adorable.  I think my favourites might be their Calligram Cards, the Kookaburra one would make the perfect gift for my Scottish in-laws!  *grin*  I think you'll agree that Blue Jacaranda's work is amazing, so sit back, relax and read how Linda's business came to be.

How would you describe your work?
I have two main product lines – the first consists of my original designs screen printed onto art cards, ACEO and t-shirts; stretched on canvas and as PDF files to print at home. The second line, which is threatening to take over my shop, consists of items made from coffee sacks, such as pillows, aprons, pencil rolls, bookmarks, cards and ornaments. I also sell a few other things such as art quilts, eyeglass cases and luggage tags.

How did your Etsy shop come into being?
I like sewing small items such as fabric postcards and pencil rolls and at some point in 2010 decided to open a MadeIt shop to try and sell them. That went very well and in September 2011 I took the plunge and opened an Etsy shop as well. Initially the idea of an Etsy shop scared me a bit – Etsy is so big, I thought I’d drown there. But I am loving it and Blue Jacaranda is doing quite well.

Who or What inspires you?
The world around me. Birds, animals, trees, flowers, seed pods, bicycles, colour, music… The list is endless!

Do you ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ as part of your creative process?  If yes, how is your art / craft eco-friendly?
Obviously my whole burlap (Hessian) line is about recycling. I also try to do most of my screen printing on recycled fabrics – but I still have a large stash of commercial fabrics that need to be used! I have decided not to buy any new fabric though.

Can you describe your studio / work area?
For screen printing I use our kitchen table. I am lucky to have a sewing room studio, where I spend many happy hours.

What is your favourite thing in the shop at the moment?
That would be the Burlap Pencil Roll.  I just love the combination of the plain burlap with the colourful threads.

Do you have any other places that people can view/purchase your work?
Online store: Etsy and madeit
Twitter & instagram: @lindarobertus

My burlap items can also be found in the Reverse Garbage Gift Shop (at Woolloongabba).
