Sunshine on a Rainy Day

The heavens may have opened on the BrisStyle Indie Mother and Child Market on Saturday but all the Marketeers brought along their own brand of pink tinged Sunshine to a very rainy day.

Colour, smiles and supportive chatter abounded during set up and in no time our first brave umbrella wielding customers arrived.

We were all nestled in the hall and everyone's stalls were bursting with gorgeous new designs for Mother and Child.

 The Australian Cattle Dog and Kelpie Club turned on the bacon, egg and sausage sangers and warmed everyone's hearts with their Devonshire Teas. Bel from Enticing icing and Liddle Apples had everyone sweet on her cupcakes and other sweet treats.

Queen Bee Kerryanne kept court enthralling everyone with the latest news from all the 8-12 year olds from Bambino Bazaar

The rain didn't stop the fabulous team from ABC Learning engaging all the children with their crafty activities.

Even the mini BrisStyle fairy and her friends took to the activities with gusto, colouring in to their heart's content.

We were all wowed by the sublime piano recitals from Sam Morton and Dennis Gibson from Marist College as well as Elizabeth Coomer from St Rita's. When the gorgeous Jess Barklimore took to the stage we were all captivated by her divine voice.  Then Jess and her friends from the St Rita's College Show Choir  got us all in the groove with their showstopping renditions of modern classics.

The Fund-raising activities were in full swing too and the support for the fabulous chicks in pink flowed in. In particular Eliza, Zoe and Gem from A Portrait a Day / WarmSigh opened their generous hearts to raise funds for Chicks and Gem once again had everyone enthralled with her tail wagging.

Thanks Prim and Sandy from chicks for braving the elements and thanks to all the BrisStylette's and customers who have so generously given support to chicks in pink this October.

Even the Red Hat Society gals turned pink for the day and chatted away with lovely local MP Teresa Gambaro.

Our event supporters from the Racecourse Road Business Group Bev, Sarah and Sharon spread the pink love too whilst planning to reschedule the World Record fundraiser. Sadly because of the rain it needed to be postponed so stay tuned for more details on where the World Record is going to be held - excitement!

In the meantime, you can stay in pink mode and take in all the other festivities along Racecourse Rd as well as nabbing some pink BrisStyle fundraising goodies from the ever so generous BrisStylette's donating a % pf their proceeds to chicks in pink.

Once again, a BIG Thank You to everyone who made the day come to life - especially those who brought their own ray of sunshine along and braved the weather!

Let the Fun Begin!

By now you may have picked up on the fact that we are just a little bit excited about Saturday's BrisStyle Indie Mother & Child Market.  Not only will it be the HOTtest destination for all things handmade for Mother & Child it will also be the perfect day out for the whole family. You've gotta love that.....

:: a painting a day ::
Our resident award winning artist Eliza Leahy from "A Painting a Day" fame will be setting up her studios in the serene courtyard area. Take away a charcoal drawing of yourself or little one or Eliza will take orders for more detailed drawings like the one below. Drawings start from as little as $10 so all the family can have their portraits done...even Nana!

:: colouring competition ::
The kids can once again visit the Colouring Competition Stand where the winners will be in the running to win a BrisStyle Gift Voucher to spend at the markets. BrisStyle designer Sam from Jetta’s Nest designed the artwork.

:: the brisstyle fairy and wowee creations ::
The gorgeous BrisStyle fairy will be back with balloons in tow and the talented wowee face painters will be onsite to create the wildest designs for all the kids.
You'll find wowee in the courtyard area at the entrance to the hall...and if you follow the ballons and bubbles you'll soon find our magical fairy.

:: brisbane brown owls crafty workshop ::
Under the large tree at the front of the markets you'll find the Brisbane Brown Owls crafting away at their little drop in zone. Market goers of all ages will be able to sit and join in with their crafty adventures and soak up each others company.

:: casey mcardle photographic studios ::
Casey McArdle Photography is a small business run primarily from Narangba on the north side of Brisbane. Casey specialises in family photography including maternity, newborn, babies and families. She will be joining us on October 8th with a very special addition to her stall - a mini photo booth ready to take FREE photographs! The images will be uploaded into a gallery on her website where you will have the opportunity to purchase digital files or photographic prints.

:: abc learning and mr bear ::
The team from ABC Learning will also be there to spread the love via their famous mascot Mr Bear. The ABC girls will be hosting crafty activities for the kids as well as giving out little show bags and helium balloons!

:: some crafty little visitors ::
Our littlest friends from Bambino Bazaar will be there with their latest handmade projects on display. So please stop by and find out what makes Brisbane's newest handmade entrepreneurs tick and how you can support them through your own creativity.

:: sausage sizzle ::
While all the Mum’s are starting their pre Christmas shopping , Dad can indulge in the best sausage sizzle this side of the river when the Australian Cattle Dog & Kelpie Club of Qld once again set up shop on the kitchen veranda. Along with the sauso's they will have their famous Devonshire Teas as well as loads of cool drinks.

:: sweet treats ::
Bel from Enticing Icing will have all her famous cupcakes, chocolate crackles, yummy biscuits as well as the latest additions to her Sweet Art range to indulge in. Of course there's a plethora of great cafe's and restaurants in Racecourse Road too, ready to serve up great food and drinks to get you through the day.

:: a world record attempt ::
The Racecourse Road Business Group will be  hosting a world record attempt to raise awareness for breast cancer. It will all take place in the grounds behind the market to create...wait for it...the largest set of pink boobs this side of the river! It's all VERY tame really as two big circles will be drawn on the ground and they are aiming at filling them with 200 balloon holding participants. Totally radical, but what a great way to promote breast cancer!

So, as we said, there is oodles to do and oodles to see so come along and enjoy a fun day out! We'd love to see you!

Introducing.....Bambino Bazaar

We're really excited about Bambino Bazaar, a Pineapple Productions initiative to grow seedling handmade businesses in a community market business garden!

Bambino Bazaar is a 10-week course for junior creative entrepreneurs to learn the basics of small business through hand-crafted enterprise that culminates in running their own stall at a real live market. Designed specifically for 8-12 year olds, it is their goal to develop Bambino Bazaar into a regular feature on cultural calendars throughout South East Queensland.

Originating in Ipswich, Bambino Bazaar is getting set to take on Brisbane with the support of the Brisbane City Council in association with BrisStyle. In particular, a host of talented BrisStyle members will be mentoring the Bambino's as well as offering other valuable resources and skills.

You'll find our new friends from Bambino Bazaar at Saturday's BrisStyle Indie Mother & Child Market with their latest handmade projects on display. So please stop by and find out what makes Brisbane's newest handmade entrepreneurs tick and how you can support them through your own creativity!  In the meantime if you have a budding entrepreneur at home aged from 8-12 then get on board the Bambino express and enrol them in these upcoming FREE courses.
