BrisStyle Craft Caravan - coming to a festival near you!

The BrisStyle Craft Caravan is coming to a community festival near you and will be out on the road this Friday, Saturday and Sunday!

Festival, Market Stalls and Workshop Activities
Friday 1 June 10am - 4pm King George Square, Brisbane
Saturday 2 June 11am - 5pm Zillmere Multicultural Festival
Sunday 3 June 9am - 4pm Racecourse Road Carnival

Pull up a deck chair, relax and put yourself in caravanning mode…suburban caravanning mode that is! Think two-toned retro caravans, community created bunting, neighourhood engagement and most importantly hands-on craft and professional development advice delivered by local crafters. (Along with the odd pink flamingo thrown in for good measure.)

The BrisStyle Craft Caravan is set to be a moveable oasis of crafting goodness, which will engage festival goer’s in the suburbs and inner city. The onsite retro caravan will evoke feelings of nostalgia as well as providing a fun and interactive backdrop for a friendly neighbourhood craft-up, appealing to all the family, young and old.  Just like a craft holiday in your own backyard.

"This event is significant because we are taking craft to the people, giving them the opportunity to ask 'how to' questions about their own craft" says BrisStyle Market and Events Coordinator Helen Berthold.

So say hooroo to the crowds and escape on your own crafty retro adventure at the BrisStyle Craft Caravan’s “make and take” suburban oasis.  Participants can drop in and craft the day away using holiday crafting skills from their schooldays. In particular, the June 1 King George Square event will come to life with the extra help of community yarn bombing.  Adventure never looked this easy!

Those wanting creative development advice can check in at Dr Craft’s Q&A caravan where local creatives will be on hand to give advice on all your crafting maladies.

Highlights of the “make and take” workshops:

  • Caravan colouring-in Oasis: Use your own flair and imagination to colour in a variety of retro suburban caravanning items. All ages and colouring outside the lines welcome!
  • MYO Caravan Brooch or Magnet: Create your very own piece of wearable or magnetised nostalgia using your choice of crafting medium. Draw, glue or colour-in a cool quirky caravan shape to take away to your own suburban oasis. Ah the serenity!
  • Community Bunting Project: This project aims to engage and showcase the imagination and crafting talents of the local communities where festivals are being held in the form of bunting.  The finished project will be donated to a key community group in the Hamilton Ward.

Presented by BrisStyle Inc. and supported by Brisbane City Council!

Be sure to pop back in tomorrow and Wednesday for more information about the upcoming BrisStyle Craft Caravan events!
