Catherine, the mosaicist behind Cairo Made That lives and breathes all things eco so we're thrilled to announce that she will be joining us at the BrisStyle Indie Eco Market.


"My main form of artistic creation is mosaic, which is one of the most eco-friendly and enduring art forms around. Every time I cut a piece of glass, or smash a plate, I keep and reuse every single off cut right down to the last shard to reuse. I quite literally waste almost nothing! The glass that I use in my Russian dolls comes from old picture frames sourced from op shops. The mirror comes from a big box of mirror tiles that I bought from a garage sale that had formerly graced someone's bathroom. Some of the wings on the birds that I make have a lovely history from their previous life inside people's china cabinets. What is so great about mosaic as an art form, is that there is an endless supply of material which doesn't harm the planet.....plus the finished product will last forever!"


"I grew up fascinated by my mother's button bottle, and have been saving the buttons from every single garment since I was young. These are now being used in headbands and brooches and hair elastics, made with materials that I have sourced from op shops. I like to buy clothing in pretty fabrics, then cut the buttons off, and cut up the fabric and turn them into pretty fabric flowers. I also love upcycling second hand clothes, to give them a fresh lease of life in a new form."


"Second-handing is a way of life for me - I have always loved visiting garage sales and op shops. A few years ago I made a conscious decision to only wear clothing (apart from my smalls) which is handmade, gifted or thrifted. It has been surprisingly easy, incredibly cost effective, and I have a very extensive wardrobe full of interesting pieces. My children have grown up always knowing this way of life, and are expert op-shoppers themselves. I'm very excited to be a part of the BrisStyle Indie Eco Market, which promotes these values! I can't wait to see what everyone else's stalls will be like!"

Feybles Nel will be at BiECO!

BiECO will be the first BrisStyle market where you can buy re-purposed treasures from Feybles Nel. Here's a little sneak peek of Nel's exciting line up of new products!


"I use quite a lot of vintage, repurposed and reclaimed parts throughout my works, and love to see old and unloved bits and pieces reborn into something new and going to a new home! It has always been a passion of mine to see what could be reused and not wasted needlessly. Mixing unexpected and unusual parts into jewellery and accessories provides me with a new challenge time after time."


"For BiECO, I have been working on some new planters, reclaimed from discarded, vintage and op-shop crockery. Teacups which have had drainage holes hand-drilled by myself so that they become a pot and saucer, for example. Perfect for a few herbs on the kitchen windowsill, or a small plant in the office!"


"Also, a range of funky and useful glasses from old bottles, saving them from the bin just once more... I've been handpainting and firing some designs onto these too.... so they're not all the same glasses that you might expect. To mix in with these, I've got a small range of hats made with and from reclaimed vintage headwear, trims, buttons, fibres and decoration. Some of the colours are so rich and bright! I can't wait to share them. :)"

Enjoy the comforts of Nan's Garden at BiECO

The ladies from Nan's Garden love to encourage and inspire people to think outside the box when it comes to recycling, upcycling and reusing.


"We at Nan's Garden use recycled, upcycled and sustainable materials to make stylish clothes and toys for children aged NB to 5. I love hunting through op-shop and Reverse Garbage to find inspiration for our next range of clothing."

"Our most popular item is our Eco Elles made from old woolen blankets. Not only are they cute but they remind people of all the great memories of staying at their Nan's place. We really believe is trying to get people excited and passionate about the environment and show them that you can make something really wonderful from what other people think has had its day."


"We use a lot of bamboo and organic cottons in the fabrics that we buy new so we know they are a sustainable resource. We hand dye, hand screen sprint and hand sew so we know exactly the impact each item has on our environment."


"We really want to encourage people to start their own gardens at home so we hand make our swing tags using recycled paper and embed them with herb seeds to people can start their own gardens at home."

Kitty Boo Boo gives the earth a big hug for BiECO

Anyone who is a regular shopper at the BrisStyle markets will know all about the fun and fantastic wares of Kitty Boo Boo so we're excited to find that for BiECO Katie is pushing the envelope to take her products to the next eco-friendly level!


"For these markets I wanted to really challenge myself. I have always tried to utilise as much of my offcuts and scrap fabric pieces as much as possible, however in the last few months I have been saving more and more of my smaller pieces after making garments in the hope that I can utilise these and create something beautiful instead of more landfill."


"I have been making baby bootees for a few years, and over the last year wrist cuffs for adults and kids from the larger pieces of remnants after making clothes. I've also been adding to my hair accessories with some gorgeous clips made from scraps that have been totally re-purposed and re-created. Along with these accessories are some corsages, chokers, bracelets/bangles and brooches."


"I've also re-purposed quite a few of the kids books (and some old maps) to create some bunting treasures that tell fairy tales in pictures."

TrishAlan presents Kumihimo demonstrations at BiECO

TrishAlan Designs will be attending their first ever Brisstyle Market when they bring their Eco Dyed Fabric & Threads to the Brisstyle Indie Eco Market! The Eco Dyeing method, developed by TrishAlan Designs uses much less water than traditional dyeing methods. An extra benefit is that there is no chemical residue entering the waterways.


“An eco themed market is right up our alley”, says Trish, “we’ve always created using items that other people have discarded. I often save bits and pieces simply because I’m sure that I can come up with an idea for it. These bits (plastic bottle rings champagne wire, hand dyed paper) are combined with our fabric & threads to create a new item."

Throughout the day Trish will be demonstrating kumihimo or Japanese Braiding. "Kumihimo is so easy to learn and is suitable for children from 7yrs +. I love the infinite number of possibilities Kumihimo allows. Experimenting with different types and colours of Eco Dyed Threads the finished braids can be incorporated into jewellery, bag handles, piping, hair bands. The list is endless."

Following on from a successful stall at Finders Keepers, Carla from Un Cielo will be bringing her wares to the BrisStyle Indie Eco Market!


"Un Cielo ('One Sky') is about unique designs from photos I have taken over the years & hand printed on sustainable, recycled & fair trade materials (where possible) to be used in our everyday life.

The products available are: organic cotton, organic cotton/bamboo, bamboo t-shirts; linen, cotton, hemp, hemp/organic cotton tea towels; calico bags; and recycled paper cards."


"Un Cielo also believes in giving back and for each sold item $1 goes to a foundation that has been matched to each design. For example, Heart – Heart Research Institute; Mum & Baby Zebras and Tree – African Wildlife Foundation; Arroz con Leche – Un Kilo de Ayuda (Mexican foundation that aims to eradicate child malnutrition in Mexico); Lauren’s Shoes – Dress for Success; etc.
