Merry Christmas!

2011 has been a huge year for BrisStyle! We have hosted markets, creative business information sessions and a number of other crafty events to help support independent artists/crafters in South East Queensland.  2012 is set to be an even bigger year as our membership base steadily grows and we continue to support the indie craft movement in Brisbane and beyond. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our members and followers for their support in 2011! Twinklin' Twilight

Come along and join us for a night under the stars at the BrisStyle Indie Twilight Market tomorrow night. Softies for Mirabel 2011

The Softies for Mirabel Christmas Craft Appeal is in its 5th year and once again Pip from meet me at mikes is calling on the crafty community to get behind this worthwhile cause.  With such an amazing, generous and crafty community here in Brisbane we thought you may be interested in making a softie to donate to the appeal.

For those of you who don't know about the Softies for Mirabel Appeal it is a worldwide softie drive which encourages crafty peeps to make and donate handmade toys for the children supported by The Mirabel Foundation. The Mirabel Foundation assists children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental illicit drug use and are now in the care of extended family.

The Softies for Mirabel mailbox hasn't opened yet but we thought we would give you plenty of notice so you can squirrel away a bit of time in your busy schedules for a spot of softie making. Keep an eye out on the meet me at mikes blog for details on when the mailbox is open, address details etc.  All softies must arrive in Melbourne by December 5th.

The softies received will be exhibited in Melbourne (hooray!) as well as showcased on the meet me at mikes blog and in this online gallery.  After they have been shown off to the nation they will be given to The Mirabel Foundation who will distribute them to children just in time for Christmas.

Some important details:

• Softies can be knitted, crocheted or sewn.
• The softies don't have to be made super professionally (so even beginners can get involved), just make sure they don't fall apart!
• Get your crafty group or friends involved!
• Remember that some of the toys will be going to little babies so toys with no buttons and choking hazards are also required.

BrisStyle Indie Designers Market - TOMORROW!

Get ready for things to warm up this winter at Brisbane's HOTtest destination for everything handmade, the BrisStyle Indie Designers Market on this Saturday at St Augustine's Church Hall and Grounds, Racecourse Road, Hamilton.

It's our first Hamilton market for the year and we're super excited to bring to you all the very best in handmade homewares, bags, accessories, jewellery, art, toys and lots, lots more that you have come to know and love!

Make sure to check out the BrisStyle website for the site plan and mega list of which of your favourite marketeers will be there on the day!

Now for all of the juicy details:

Food: Local Ascot not-for-profit group, The Australian Kelpie and Cattle Dog Association will be running a sausage sizzle to warm your belly.  They will also be offering tea, coffee and hot chocolate as well as a selection of cold drinks and water.

For those with a sweet tooth look no further than BrisStyle's resident sweetie, Enticing Icing for a great homemade array of cookies, cakes, chocolate crackles and other yummy delights!

Entertainment: Local band, The Mice and Free Association are set to fill the air with their great sounds.

Charity Raffle: It's raffle time again and this time the proceeds will be donated to the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation (ACCF).  Make sure to get yourself a ticket from the BrisStyle Promo Stand to be in with a chance to win a fantastic selection of handmade treasures all donated by our generous members.

BrisStyle Promo Table: Once again the BrisStyle Promo table will be laden with goodies and information including collectors editions of MixTape, Bespoke and Peppermint Magazine along with our famous BrisStyle totes! Now selling for $7.50 it's a great way to carry all your handmade goodies around as you shop and browse at the stalls.

We'll also have some fantastic 'show bags' from the Racecourse Road Business Group filled to the brim with vouchers from local restaurants, cafes and businesses as well as loads of BrisStyle goodness too, so why not make a day of it and soak up all the local fare the Racecourse Road Precinct has to offer!

BrisStyle indie Twilight Market - this Friday night!

Get your winter woolies on and head on in to your favourite destination for everything handmade under the stars The BrisStyle Indie Twilight Market, King George Square this Friday night, May 27 from 5pm-9pm.

As always, we'll be showcasing a huge lineup of Brisbane's best Indie Designers which will include our regular talented marketeers along with some very exciting new ones.

Along with the amazing array of handmade homewares, bags, jewellery, accessories and art you may spy some randomly gifted soft toys! That's right, BrisStyle's Mega Toy Drop that has been taking over the city is set to culminate in the Square this Friday night. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for some sweet softies in the stalls as well as around the square.

Once again, your favourite eco fashion magazine, Peppermint will be back as part of the BrisStyle Co-op experience in the centre of the Markets.

While feasting your eyes on all the fab handmade goods, you'll be able to indulge your ears with the sounds of Brass Roots Live and our fave roving jazz trio the All Stars.

When your tummy starts to rumble grab a delicious bite or thirst quenching beverage from the Groove Train. The cafe in the square serves up the best hot toddy's in town so make sure you head over for your caffeine fix.

We'll be trading rain or shine so if the weather is a little on the crazy side, make sure to look for us up on the large undercover Deck located above The Groove Train in King George Square.

If you park underneath in the King George Square Car Park the lift will take you directly to the Deck. Otherwise you can come up via the lift and stairs in the square itself or via the ramp on Anne Street.

Markets 101: How to Present and Successfully Sell your Work

Are you considering selling your work at an art, craft or design market for the first time? Or are you a market veteran looking for some new strategies to help you improve and grow? If you answered 'yes' to either of the above questions then this information session is for you! To help you along the path to achieving market success, market experts, Trish Goodfield (of TrishAlan Designs) and Sophie Stratton-Ferrier (of Strat Designs) will cover all of the market essentials. Topics will include: choosing the right market for your product, market insurance, market day essentials, market set-up and display, classic customer service 'No No's', winning customer service techniques, the importance of first impressions, simple sales strategies including 'add on' sales and basic after sales techniques that will ensure customers keep coming back for more.
