REGINALD – The CAE Portrait Prize for Softies

Reginald is a competition in which YOU are invited, the general public to make a Softie Portrait of someone you admire/appreciate and want to replicate in soft toy form. Once its made, you will send through a photo of it together with a photo of the person/pet that the portrait represents.

The judges are Cat Rabbit, nationally and internationally revered soft sculpture/textile artist and Pip Lincolne, Melbourne crafter, author and Meet me at Mikes blogger. They will select 10 finalists who will then send their actual softie portraits for a fabulous exhibition, to be held in the CAE info shop in central Melbourne.

CAE are over the moon to announce frankie magazine as the principal partner, there will be a special frankie prize awarded for softie portrait excellence, which will be judged by frankie’s very own Lara Burke. They also excited to have Brother as a supporter as well.

The Reginald winner, selected by Cat Rabbit and Pip Lincolne, will receive:

- Brother NS55 Sewing Machine, valued at $699- A commissioned soft sculpture by Cat Rabbit- Inclusion on Pip Lincolne’s ‘Meet me at Mikes’ blog- Inclusion on frankie magazine’s blog- Subscription to frankie magazine

In addition, there will be a People’s Prize awarded, as voted by the general public. Chosen from the ten finalists, People’s Prize voting will be online and in person.

For the purpose of this competition a Softie Portrait (soft toy) is defined as a handmade soft sculpture made from fabric or yarn, incorporating hand and/or machine stitching, knitting or crochet, which emulates a specific person or pet. Your Softie Portrait MUST be your own original work.

Photographic entries must be received by 7 March 2014. DON’T SEND ACTUAL SOFTIE PORTRAITS, unless you are contacted. The competition will be judged in March 2014 and finalists notified by 12 March. The exhibition will run from 21 March to 14 April.

It’s United Nations Day on the 24th of this month. It’s the International Year of the Potato this year, as declared by the United Nations. How does this relate to BrisStyle you may well ask? Well, it doesn’t really except for the fact that potatoes are a popular vegetable and most BrisStyle members likely eat them on a fairly regular basis. When I think of potatoes I think of chips.
